Do Cytoxan And Taxotere Interact With Lorazepam, Diazepam And Clonazepam?

default
Posted on Wed, 2 Nov 2016
Question: I am going throught chemo with Cyroxan and Taxotere for breast cancer. While they are pumping me full of drugs that are helping tremendously...I worry about the interaction between everything I'm taking. Most recently, due to steroid effects, I am having to take something to sleep and my choices which have been prescribed are Lorazepam (available for anxiety), Diazepam (taking 5 mg to sleep) and Clonazepam (available for stress). Any advice other than to talk to my oncologist next week (appointment scheduled). I'm working and trying to function because due to great other drugs, chemo side effects have been minimal.

Brief Answer:
BREAST CANCER

Detailed Answer:
DEAR XXXX,
YOU HAVE NOT GIVEN FULL HISTORY, WHETHER THE CHEMOTHERAPY GIVEN TO YOU IS ANTERIOR I.E TO SHRINK THE TUMOR OR UNDER STAGE THE DISEASE FOR SURGERY OR THE DISEASE IS ADJUVANT WHICH IS THE CHEMOTHERAPY GIVEN AFTER COMPLETE REMOVAL OF THE GROSS DISEASE TO PREVENT THE RECURRENCE.
THERE WILL BE DEFINITELY SOME AFTER EFFECTS OF CHEMOTHERAPY LIKE FALL IN BLOOD COUNT, VOMITTING OR NAUSEA FOR WHICH YOU ARE GETTING TREATMENT.THESE ARE COMPLETELY REVERSIBLE AT THE END OF TREATMENT SO ALSO THE HAIR FALL.
YOU ARE NOT ON ANY STEROIDS EXCEPT THAT YOU MIGHT BE GETTING IT AS PRE MEDICATION FOR CHEMOTHERAPY. SO THERE WONT BE ANY SIDE EFFECT WITH THE TRANQUILIZER YOU ARE TAKING.
AFTER YOU FINISH THE PRESCRIBED CYCLES OF CHEMOTHERAPY YOU MAY BE PUT ON HORMONES DEPENDING UPON THE HORMONE RECEPTOR STATUS.

DEAR XXXX IF YOU WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT THIS DISEASE YOU SHOULD FORWARD FULL HISTORY, STAGE OF THE DISEASE, ER, PR AND HER STATUS AND HISTO PATHOLOGICAL DETAILS IF SURGERY WAS PERFORMED.

TRULY,

Stage 2 invasive lobular carcinoma, Oncotype svore 29, 2 lumpectomies right breast, sentinal lymph node clear but cancer in 1 of other 2 lymph nodes removed. 2nd surgery had no more imvasive cancer but did show an additional foci of lobular in situ carcinoma that did not show up on CT scans or MRI's. Sneaky type of cancer. Would like to get a double mastectomy and hysterectomy to avoid additional serious risks of radiation and hormone therapy. Need hysterectomy do to pre-cancerous cervical treatment due to HPV

Waiting on response to my second inquiry where I included more detailed info about diagnosis and treatment plan. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
CA BREAST

Detailed Answer:
DEAR XXXX,
THANKS FOR REVERTING. SO YOU HAD STAGE 2 RIGHT BREAST CANCER ALREADY COMPLETELY REMOVED, BUT HORMONE RECEPTOR ASSAY STILL NOT PROVIDED. AS FAR AS MY EXPERIENCE GOES WE GO FOR BREAST CONSERVATION TREATMENT WHICH IS ALREADY DONE IN YOUR CASE, PROPHYLACTIC MASTECTOMY, THOUGH ADVOCATED IN THE LITERATURE IN HIGH RISK PATIENTS, NEED NOT BE DONE. REMAIN UNDER CONSTANT FOLLOW UP FOR EARLY DETECTION AND GET TREATMENT ACCORDINGLY. NOTHING IS 100 PERCENT ESTABLISHED AND CONTINUE WITH THE REST OF YOUR TREATMENT. RADIOTHERAPY WHICH IS TO PREVENT LOCAL RECURRENCE HAS PLUS, MINUS ROLE IN YOUR CASE WHICH CAN BE CONSIDERED BY YOUR TREATING DOCTOR. TO ME ADJUVANT CHEMOTHERAPY WHICH YOU ALREADY HAD FOLLOWED BY HORMONE THERAPY IF ER AND PR ASSAY IS POSITIVE.
TRULY,
DR. J. TICKU
