Chest And Back Pain, Taking Prilosec For Heart Burn, Frequent Urination, Smoking Marijuana. Need Relief

Question: having pain in my chest and back which is almost always present but not until i have bad bloated feelings and or pressure. It doesn't bother me when i first wake up but i try and sit to drive it gets way worse. feels like stuff from my stomach is coming up into my chest area and makes it hard for me to breathe. i do take 1 prilosec every morning becasue i have heartburn if i don't... doctors claim they have no clue. and state it will go away. Iv'e had this for a long time now at least a year. Driving my car it's not as bad but when i drive my truck the discomfort seems to move from the isolated areas i mentioned above. Has been causing me depression and some anxiety feelings too. i'm always uncomfortable and or have pain in my back or shoulder and some at the same time... Burning, tingling, and just pain. it's driving me nuts and it limits my abilities to live and do my job. i have had back pain (lower) that comes and goes. Lately, iv'e found iv'e been having to pee often. I drink lots of water and gatorade. NO coffee or cigarettes. But i occasionally smoke marijuana to help fight the feeling, which it does help but it's not going away. to be honest i'm a bit scared and worried. it's not fun. have not had any major problems or health related issues to speak of. Just need to find better relief.

Hi,
Thanks for writing in.
I do not think you need to be worried about these symptoms as they do not indicate something serious. They can very well be contributed by Irritable bowel syndrome or simply anxiety.
But since both these things are diagnosis of exclusion ( which means we have to rule out other things before we can definitely say it is this), I would like to know whether any investigations have been done for you? Also, are your bowel habits normal?
Does this pain worsen with anxiety?
Let me know and we can take this discussion ahead

I understand what you mean. i'll do my best to explain. I have had issues including discomfort when having bowl movements and after. (intestinal pain, pressure, discomfort). It wasn't always this bad though. This has come on over the past 2 & 1/2 years but seems to be worse this year. It happens almost everyday.
My habits are as follows:
i wake up and have to go almost immediately in the morning and again after eating lunch, hardly ever later than that during a normal day. I have noticed it takes a while to finish, meaning it seems like i have to go and i could be on the toilet 20mins slowly going and sometimes does not want to come out. Not always but sometimes. Example, last week i sat in the bathroom on my lunch brake for about 15-20 mins slowly going. It literally felt like i had to keep going until it finally subsided before i considered i was done going. Yes, a little bit was coming out over that 15-20 min span rather than just all at once. Sometimes feeling discomfort but not bad just discomfort bloated feelings in my stomach and sometimes felt like it pushed pressure or gas all the way up into my chest. This also happened on my lunch time after bathroom brakes. After the lunch time bathroom brake i felt different in the stomach and when i went to drive the same vehicle that i drove earlier in the day i would feel different than i had earlier driving, it felt like pressure or gas was pushed up into my stomach and some into my chest over the 6 minute drive back to work. i would get out of the car and i could feel the gas move back down and most of the pressure went away too but sometimes it stayed and was discomforting for almost the entire rest of the day. I did sometimes burp but after burping it seemed like it was causing gas up in my chest and it moved into my shoulders and back (if that's possible) almost like a pinched nerve. Had burning and tingling along with pain and numbness. I mention that because it seems to happen at the same time so i assume it must be associated with it but i am not sure... I also noticed this same type of gas and pressure feelings would happen if i ate something shortly after going to the bathroom and or driving the car (as if the gas hadn't gone back down where it cam from yet) but after driving it was worse for me. Again, i'm trying my best to describe this.
This week was totally off but i have not changed my diet of eating habits, Sunday morning i could not go at all but felt like i had pressure when i attempted to, at lunch brake i did have to go but iv'e had some stomach pains and didn't/couldn't go that much, felt like i should of been on the toilet for 30mins that day. Monday morning, i had to go more than usual right after getting up with no pressure type feelings at all but had stomach pains sometimes like a cramp feeling, lunch time was the same. Tuesday i had to go in the morning 4 separate times before lunch and each time was just a little bit but it felt like i had to go and sometimes badly but only ending up going a little bit and it was right when i got up, after i ate breakfast, after driving the car 6 mins to work, and again 20 mins after that. 4 times total. I ate lunch and had to go one more time, making it 5 times, but again, only a little. Nothing the rest of that day but felt bloated and stomach seemed upset or something, just felt weird. Wednesday (Today), my stomach felt twisted and i woke up with gas and didn't have to go until shortly after i ate my breakfast, little pressure feeling but it made my stomach upset, a sick to my stomach feeling, I felt that way until lunch. I ate a roast beef 6inch grinder and my stomach felt sickish again and like i had to go to the bathroom badly and had some gas which caused me to burp but it feels like the burp gas would not come all out. only a little and was uncomfortable for about an hour, my throat felt the same pressure i speak of. During that time it was again just vary little but felt like i needed to go a lot and it feels like gas pushed up into my chest and felt like it was stuck in my chest. Couple times it left me having to take XXXXXXX breaths as if my regular breathing wasn't good enough because gas has pushed up or something. I don't know how else to explain this but i hope you know what i'm talking about.

Other things i have had too, when my stomach and chest don't feel like that, my back, neck, & shoulder and sometimes my left arm have tingling, burning, pain like somethings pinched and my shoulder will feel like it's on fire (left side) and i can feel my back in that area is numbness feeling and it hurts if i push on it. Doctor gave me 10mg muscle relaxers and told me to take 3 daily for 10 days & if it didn't go away he'd prescribe up to 3 refills. Needless to say this did not work and i still have that happening to me but it comes and goes daily. I mostly have it 5 days a week but a month ago it went away for almost 10days and i thought i did something right somehow and enjoyed those days to the fullest until on the 11t day i got the gassy pressure feelings and the same back pain all over again. Sometimes this is really bad but it's almost always present. Again, don't know if it's related or something different all together but it seems to be happening at the same time.
Hope that was enough info for you to go by. if not, i can email you more or describe it better. i have kept a log journal that i can look through to see if i missed something. Thank you for listening and reading my post. I know you can't directly help me but anything you can suggest or recommend i could do to help this and or relieve my pain when i have it, PLEASE PLEASE let me know. Thanks so much!!

Hi XXXXXXX
Thanks for the detailed description. What you are experiencing sounds like irritable bowel syndrome and anxiety together. Here's what you should be doing. Do let me know after a week if these measures help:
a. Have a high fibre diet. Atleast 6 servings of fruits and vegetables, and drink atleast 3-4 litres of water daily
b. Try and avoid whole grains, wheat, rice, pasta and all cereals for a few days and see if it helps.
c. Try and reduce your anxiety levels Exercising, XXXXXXX breathing, yoga and other breathing techniques ( called pranayama) will help tremendously
d. Eat every 3-4 hours and make sure you eat something small and healthy.
Hope this helps
