Question: Hi
This is xxxxx. Recently had endoscopy and diagnosed with Mild Antral and Corporal gastritis. H.pylori negative frm endoscopy.
My doubt is on h.pylori test in which they had a strip kind of thing . 8 days prior to the test I had PPI tablet RABIMAX for 2 days and an Antibiotic a month before. Would the tablets would have given false prediction? unfortunately my Gastroenterologist didn't mention or ask anything about this though I showed him the prescription of those tabs.

Brief Answer:
one should not take antibiotic 4weeks and ppi 2 weeks prior to this test

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thanks for putting your query in hcm. Actually any antibiotic is to be stopped for at least 4 weeks prior and any proton pump inhibitor for 2 weeks prior to the h.pylori test. Otherwise there is high chance of negative predictability. Therefore those medications most likely may have interfered with the test results. I suggest you to discuss about my views with the treating doctor.

Hope I have answered your query and this will help you. Wish you a good health

Thanks for the reply doctor. Right now I am taking Nexpro and Aciloc and Antacid syrup for Gastritis cure. another 5 days left over for tablet the course to be completed I guess this is yet another PPI. So what's my way forward? I am out of town and can't meet my doctor for another 10 days. Is another endoscopy required? I am also having daily morning Solid stool gradually changing to watery stool since 20 days. Please advise.
Is there a cure for me? very much depressed about all these confusions. Though hunger there I am not able to eat much

Brief Answer:
No need for repeat endoscopy

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back.
Yes nexpro contains esmopramozole which is also a PPI
If your symptoms are better then continue with the same medicines and there is no need for endoscopy again
For loose stool I will advise you to take a course of probiotic and tablet rifaximin which is a mild GUT antibiotic and have no systemic absorption. Avoid dairy products.
There is no need for so much worry as stress and worry will increase acid production and will worsen the symptoms more.
I hope I have answered your query and this will help you. Wish you a good health. If you have further query I will like to answer that too.

Hi doctor. thanks again. what about confirmation of h.pylori? let's assume my previous endoscopy shown false negative. I heard this bacteria is a killer bacteria in the long run and antibiotics are required to.kill it. Nexpro and Aciloc may not be sufficient right? so shud I do some test to recheck that bacteria?

Brief Answer:
H.pylori is not killer bacteria in our country

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back. In XXXXXXX prevalence of H.pylori in general population is around 70% and still the complication rate is very less, than western country. So what you have heard that this is a killer bacteria is not truth in our country. So keep cool. And there is no need for rechecking for h.pylori. Wish you a good health

Thank you very much. Leaving aside H.pylori my last doubt regarding my problem Mild Antral and Corporal gastritis. Is this curable? if I am strict in my diet, how long will it take to cure? Feeling so miserable as I am always feeling tired and sleepy. I did not go to work for two weeks. I do not have any abdominal pain or heartburn. I am tired, burping, heavy after small meal. appetite sometimes there sometimes not there. When can I be back to normal life?
