Brief Answer: Yes you can take this tablet Detailed Answer: Hi Thanks for posting your query on HealthcareMagic. Omez is omeprazole and can be taken daily in the dose of 20 mg. The dose can be increased to 40 mg if acidity is severe. Its side effects include Diarrhoea, nausea, fatigue, constipation, vomiting, flatulence, acid regurgitation, bone pain, muscle pain, urticaria, dry mouth, dizziness, headache, paraesthesia, abdominal pain, skin rashes, weakness, back pain, cough. These side effects are usually seen after prolonged intake of omeprazole, these side effects should not happen on taking it occasionally. An alternative is pantoprazole (one brand name is pantop). It can be taken in the dose of 20 - 40 mg per day. The side effects include diarrhoea, dizziness, skin rashes, GI tract infections, headache, nausea, pain, anxiety, hyperglycaemia; malaise or lassitude; muscle pain, oedema, insomnia, hyperlipidaemia, flatulence, abdominal pain, constipation, eructation, dyspepsia, rectal disorder, urinary frequency, UTI, weakness, bronchitis, cough, upper respiratory tract infection. Both are to be taken 1 hour before meals in the morning. Another option is ranitidine which belongs to another group of antacids. Mostly try to control acidity with acid neutralizing medicines like gelusil. Also drink cleaner water to avoid stomach infection. Get yourself tested for H pylori. There are several tests available for it Hope it helps Dr Vaishalee
