Can I Drink Alcohol Inspite Of Taking Ornidazole?

Question: Hello Sir, I have been prescribed with treatment of orni 500 1-0-1 for 5 days. Can I take alcohol during this time frame ? If not then what can be potential risk if alcohol is taken during orni 500 treatment ? Can you please advise ?

Brief Answer: no. disulfiram like reaction. Detailed Answer: Hi, I went through the query and understood your concern. The ornidazole belongs to metronidazole group of drug of antibiotic and is known to cause disulfiram like reaction which includes severe nausea, vomiting, dizziness and headache. So the possibility with ornidazole is also there. So you should avoid consuming alcohol. For my patients due to this risk factior,I advice them not to take alcohol. I hope this information helps you.
