Can Chlamydia Re-occur?

default
Posted on Fri, 24 Feb 2017
Question: I started dating my boyfriend in November 2015. He was treated for chlamydia in September 2015 but didn't finish all of his pills and never got retested. I was pregnant and got tested for chlamydia in April 2016 and October 2016 and it was negative. I have a history of UTI, BV, and yeast infections due to a compromised immune system so I have been on a lot of different antibiotics. I also have been on IV antibiotics during this time period. He found out that he had chlamydia a week ago and swears he didn't cheat and I don't think he did. One doctor has told me that he had to have cheated but I have read some studies where it can stay in a man's gut.

Brief Answer:
Recurring infection

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
Chlamydia infection is usually sexually acquired.
If the antibiotics are not taken properly, then the chlamydia infection remains in the body and the infection recurs again and again.
Most likely, this is the case with your partner.
His infection is not completely treated by the antibiotics he took earlier and hence the infection has recurred.
Chlamydia do not occurs from gut infection.
Hope you found the answer helpful.

why did my 2 tests come back as negative if he was never cured? I read that if chlamydia isn't cured it can travel to a man's intestines. is that true?
