Can An Angiography Be Performed On An Elderly Weak Patient Who Had A Heart Attack A Few Days Back?
Question: please find reports attached.My father had a heart attack 4 days back.Dr suggested Angiography,based on kidney, echo n blood.plz suggest.he is 76 n very weak

Well, the heart attack seemed to have affected quite a lot of the cardiac functioning. The forward flow, as well as the backflow, is affected, which is also causing heart failure.
Yes, the urea creatinine is deranged to some extent, but considering the risk-benefit ratio, Angiography should be done as already advised by the Cardiologist.
He must be kept in ICU (duration can be of several days to weeks, based on his overall response) till further stabilization. Along with it, kidney protective medication (eg. N-acetylcysteine should be administered before and after the angiography). If he's producing a good amount of urine then this should take of it. Otherwise, a brief duration of dialysis may be required.
Yes, weakness is pretty understandable at this serious stage. Please note when the heart is so severely affected, the overall blood supply also gets jeopardized (it's only able to send out hardly 25% of the required blood supply throughout the body).
So, please follow the treating Doctors advice and proceed for the angiography.
