Can A Hysterectomy Process Disturb And Spread Other Cancers?

default
Posted on Tue, 13 Oct 2015
Question: I am 65 and have been told that I have a pre-cancer condition that requires a hysterectomy. My concern is if I have another cancer in the abdominal area, would the process of a hysterectomy disturb and perhaps spread other cancers?

Brief Answer:
Contrast enhanced CT scan advised

Detailed Answer:
Hello mam, thanks for trusting health care magic.
I understand your health concerns and anxiety related to the issue.
Yes definitely surgical exploration of the abdomen can disseminate other cancers if at all present but it is a principle in surgery that excision is always performed in case benefits outweigh risks.
I have seen the attached report and at your age, hysterectomy is highly recommended.
But to play safe and avoid those complications you can get a contrast enhanced CT scan done to rule out other abnormalities in abdomen.
Get it evaluated from a good radiologist and I hope everything will turn out to be safe and sound.
All the best.

Dr Manisha
