Question: Can Meftal P given to my 4 yr old son suferring from 102F fever w/o any other symptom? Ibugesic has been prescribed and is effective only for 4 hours after the fever returns. No other symptoms viz related to cough etc. Child is active

Your child is probably suffering from a viral infection.

Irrespective of the cause of fever, the temperature needs to be brought down by any means. Meftal P (mefenamic acid) is more effective than Ibugesic Plus (ibuprofen) and paracetamol in bringing down temperature. It can be given safely to a child of 4 years having a temperature of 102°F and without any other symptoms. The minimum interval between doses would be 6 hours.

Please note that Meftal P is a prescription medicine and needs to be prescribed by your treating physician.
