Brief Answer:
Considerations

Detailed Answer:
hello and thank you for sending the question.

I assume the reason why you want to take higher doses is because you are having persistent symptoms. The maximum recommended dose is 80 mg total per day. It is not advisable to take 120 mg per day.

If you are continuing to have persistent symptoms I would recommend that you contact your primary care physician to discuss symptoms and he may consider adding additional medication to your regimen to help control your symptoms.

As always we generally advise avoiding consumption of alcohol, very hot liquids, high-fat meals and try to make sure you do not eat a significant amount of food within two hours of going to bed.

Additional medications including ranitidine or Carafate can sometimes be added to a regimen of daily protonix in a situation where symptoms are persistent.

Please discuss this with your doctor prior to making any changes in your medication regimen.

Thanks again for sending your question.

Sincerely,

Dr. Galamaga
