Are There Precautions To Avoid Asthma In New Born Children?

Question: Hello Doctor,
My wife is having Sinus and my son who is 6 years old is having asthma. Currently my wife is 4 weeks pregnant. Could you please kindly let me know the possibility of new born also having asthma? Is there any precautions we can take to avoid asthma in new born children.

1. Family history of asthma places one at a risk of developing asthma.

2. Try to avoid development of childhood obesity in the coming child. He should be physically active in childhood. Avoid excess dust exposure in childhood. Get any childhood respiratory ailment recognised and treated at the earliest.

Thanks for the follow up query. After going through your follow up query, I would like to comment the following:

1. The mother needs to avoid all sort of dust exposure. Also active and passive smoking needs to be avoided.

2. If any respiratory symptoms/ diseases are seen/diagnosed in pregnancy, they need to be treated at he earliest.

3. Eat a good nutricious diet. Include fresh fruits in diet plans.
