Are Grapes And Watermelons Good For Keeping Blood Sugar Steady?

default
Posted on Mon, 9 Nov 2015
Question: I have been dx. with Type 2 Diabetes 2 years ago. Have been told to eat a lot of fruits and vegetables. As an R.N. for 37 years I know all the basics but am confused on the amount of fruit I can eat. I love red grapes and could sit and eat like popcorn, maybe 100 at a time, but they shoot my blood sugar up to the 140 range, and for me that is high as I usually run 80's to 120. I am on Metformin 1000mg. daily, Januvia 100mg daily and Glyburide 2.5mg. daily. What fruits are best for me and how much in a 24 hour period? As a nurse I hate food exchange measures and just go with amounts I feel good about, but obviously I am flunking in the amount of fruits I can eat and which ones. I did not like diabetic exchanges in school and I hate calculating them now! Thank you so much for your recommendations and thoughts on this.

Brief Answer:
depends on the type

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thanks for writing to hcm. Noted the contents. Generally in simple terms there are some you can use liberally and some in moderation. Practically that will help much more than exchanges. Grapes and watermelons increase the sugars enormously as you are aware. I will be glad to email you a short article on it which I have written. May I have your email? Its not that its impossible here but the details are quite extensive. Regards.

Was unable to obtain answer, my computer for some reason would not give the answer, very disappointed. Either resend the answer please or I will have to ask for money back. I have a brand new computer and I do not know why it would not accept answer, I am not computer or technically very smart in these type of things with computers. Please, please resend in another way or format that your technical advisors would suggest. thank you very much.

This was very informative! Thank you so much for the above calibrations.
This will help me tremendously, unfortunately the things I like the best are the worst ones. I will just cut down on the ones I am eating so much of and that is red grapes, watermelon. Thank you again for your time and attention to this question.
