Are Anxiety, Stress And Airway Inflammation Signs Of COPD?

default
Posted on Sat, 18 Jun 2016
Question: So I find I sleep pretty good when I take my Xanax at night before bed. Last night I didn't. I woke at 2:30. I tried to go back to sleep. Then I became anxious as I thought of breathing difficulty. This kept me awake bi also arose pushing to relieve the trapped air I sat down after taking a Xanax and read an article on air trapping from an asthmatics point of view. The web page is called breathinstephan. He described reasons people get air trapping, one was inflammation from asthma or copd. You mentioned stress can be a factor to airway inflammation and that is what you believe is the causal. Factor to my fef25/75 small airway scores.

I would like to get your input regarding constant anxiety and if it can cause continual airway inflammation. Can it be worse on some days and less on others depending on level of stress and mental thought worry.

I want to print your response on the subject of my airway inflammation as you perceive it. Would you give a full explanation of the causal factors and the effects that this creates. I have asked this in parts many times before but if you can put it in one full clear explanation. I can print it to tell me and remind me that my issues have a form of explanation other than thinking its copd when tests show its not

Oh it's nice to talk with you. Hope all is well with you.

I have realized that work causes more anxiety each day than my marriage does. But both are high

Sorry to say but I don't think you need print for this.
Honestly speaking you shouldn't not keep print about stress and anxiety.
Because I don't want you to think more about stress by seeing and reading that print.
This is not needed.
Your belief is sufficient enough.
Sorry if you disagree.
I will write if you still insist.
What happened last night? Is stress level high during the day time?

I will give schedule of yesterday for you to see. Look at each event and see if I have allowed inflammation to persist and cause an issue.

I got up and had my usual morning level of stress believing that i was gonna have taking a breath with ease.
Took my morning Meds, sat down to watch a few minutes of news while I put footwear on.
Went to work, scrambled to get things ready, I was corporate meeting day, spent entire day in meetings while waiting to get to office to work on my work.
Notified that the stepchildren had an evening school program that I needed to attend. Raced home to go, then had to walk a distance to get to school. The breathing was tested, I believe because I was worried on it so it persisted to be limited with tight chest feeling.
Got out of program, raced home to eat, take a shower and get to bed later than normal. Being late for bed, I knew i would get limited sleep, another stressor. I feel better or more relaxed if I get adequate rest. And rest is needed to lower stress.

I got up today with lots to do and worry from the moment i get up that i will have problem with breathing.

I understand your thoughts on my request for list to print. I see your point but I am looking to see that what is causal to my issues can reassure my tendency to believe that I have some lung disorder that is causing my problem.

Brief Answer:
No organic lung disease in your case.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your follow up question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
No need to worry for organic lung disease like COPD or asthma.
Your current narration itself suggest that you are symptomatic only and only due to stress, anxiety and panic disorder.
Yesterday was very stressful day for you and it showed immediately in night time during sleep.
So it is as simple as that.
Avoid stress and tension and stay symptom free.
I still don't believe why you wake up with the fear of being symptomatic during the day?
I mean don't you just remove this fear from your mind?
Please reply me answers of above asked questions, so that I can guide you better. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.

To answer you question on why I do not remove the fear from my mind is because of previous sudden situations that triggered a shortness of breath/breathing problem that took a few minutes to get back to normal. The thoughts of that have stuck in my mind so that I worry that it will get worse over time and lead to some type of lung disease.

Case 1. 1998-1999 I was going across college campus to a class. I had to go up 3 flights of steps to get to the room. I had been doing this for a period of time with no problem, then all of the sudden it started. I was still smoking at the time and I attributed it to that. Shortly after I quit during a panic attack. Now this event on the stairs could have been a mix of no exercise, anxiety that I had when running to get to class.
2. A couple years later I had another episode while climbing a very long stairwell. at a couple of buildings.
3. And there have been a few where I enter old buildings and I have a big stairway to climb. I get out of breath and also do not have enough air to talk until i catch my breath.

Now you and a number of drs say no lung disease or maybe inflammation causing airways to make breathing harder.

I ask for your explanation to print so I can see if it is high anxiousness or lung inflammation that is brought on by anxiety. That climbing stairs and running short on breath is nerve racking and anxiety responsive.

If I have no organic lung disease, is it inflammed airways? Tell me what you think

Yes you are welcome to ask.

I will say in advance that depending on what was going on, I was a anxious child at times. I was never beaten nor belittled, nor hurt but my father managed to instill a certain amount of fright from the authority he placed. Around my mother I was fine.
My father delivered correctional punishment, he never abused but he could and did instill fear. but I also loved him very much.

2. Family was 2 older brothers, one older sister, one younger brother, one younger sister. The current family is one older brother and one younger sister. The remaining have passed away. From Accidents and such.
3 I am the 4th child
4. Decisions were allowed as long as they were not a cause of foolish spending of money. I could take music lessons but I would not be allowed to take sky diving lessons. I could take art classes but not buy something that was a fad and would not last but a short time.

No traumatic event other than a Bicycle accident that I was thrown from hitting the road and dragging in gravel for 10 feet or so. Really tore up my face and chest. I was 8 at the time.

quiet in company of strangers until I got to know them.

I intermixed with strangers. Again I was quiet until I got to know them. I had a few incidents with strangers that were the local bully's and got beat up but nothing that was traumatic
