71 Yr Old Female With Bursitis In Hip. PT Recommended

Question: 71 yr old female with bursitis in hip. PT recommended with ultrasound wand of medication, light exercise. Ice and Tylenol. For bursitis in my shoulder I have been given a cortisone shot and it was cured immediately and long term. Physical therapist dr/owner will not offer that needle but insists on PT. the deep tissue massage on the leg muscle is painful. They are unhappy that I can't ride the stationery bike due to severe osteoporosis in hip. I have had 2 treatments and 2 next week. I have predisone 10mgs at home and am now taking it 1x daily as I think medicine and medical treatment is more important than stretching and PT. Please advise. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Local steroid shot is a better option.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
Severe osteoporosis aggravates the bursitis and inflammatory pains in the joints. Mild pain killers, hot compress, regular physiotherapy does help in the improvement in the long term. Taking prednisolone without a prescription is not recommended and can cause more side effects as compared to the local injection. It is better to convince your orthopedician to consider going for a local steroid shot to decrease the inflammation in the hip joint. Taking prednisolone at home will help in reducing the inflammation and pain but can aggravate gastric acidity. It is better to take an antacid also in case you experience such symptoms.
I hope this answers your query.
