Question: 30 year old male 5'7 170lbs with no known medical aliments other than a shellfish allergy. I had an allergic reaction on 4/20/19 and was placed on Prednisone 50mg for 5 days plus a dose at an ER on that day and one more on another ER visit the following week (7 doses in a 6 day period). I didn't react well with the Prednisone and was prescribed Vistaril to help calm me down while I was on Prednisone. I took the last of both on 4/26/19 and felt able to return to work that day. I've progressively felt better except for moments like today when I went for a walk and noticed that I felt lightheaded and breathing was a bit difficult. I had noticed the same thing on 5/11/19 when I lifted weights. From time to time I've had dull chest aches almost like I had just gotten over a cold. My dizziness tends to go away when I sit down. Could this be a side effect of Prednisone withdrawal or does it sound like something I should see my GP for?

Brief Answer:
Allergy possible.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor service. I read your query and here is my advice.

I don't think this is related to prednisone withdrawal syndrome because it has passed about three weeks since usage. I think these may be signs of allergy and you may need to do IgE levels and possibly spirometry to check respiratory function.
You probably may be allergic to other substances rather than shellfish possibly pollen or other allergens found in flowers, judging by the season when symptoms appear.
I think you may need to visit GP.

Hope I have answered the question.

So even without a runny nose or cough it's still probably some airborne allergies causing this? Thank you for the information and I'll schedule with my GP.
