Will Kidneys Ever Start Functioning Or Is My Sister In For Life-long Dialysis?

My sister is hospitalized with Cdiff and now undergoing dialysis. It seems the Cdiff may have damaged her kidneys until they are almost non-functioning. Will they ever start functioning or is she in for life-long dialysis? She is also undergoing platelet infusions for a platelet disorder and the doctor thinks that issue is now improving.
