What Could Be The Reason For Having Cramps On The Left Side Of My Stomach?

I had a tubal ligation 18yrs ago. My period was due the first of this month (03/01/14) I do realize febreuary was a short month so I alloted 2 days for that. Still today is the 14th. On the fisrt and second I cramped but no period ever came. Since then every now and then I have semi-severe cramps on the left side of my stomach sometimes. I am 40yrs old. What in the world could this be?

hello and welcome,
I am Dr Nilajkumar a consultant gynecologist and I will be helping you in your queries.

There are the following possibilities:
1. Hormonal imbalances and ovarian cysts. Very common. Diagnosed by examination, ultrasound and blood tests. Hormone dysfunction may get corrected spontaneously if it is mild.
2. Pregnancy: very rare but re unioun of tubes and a tubal pregnancy is possible. Diagnosed by a urine pregnancy test. Get it done soon.
3. Premature menopause: not very common but still possible. Diagnosed by FSH, LH test if there are absent menses for at least 1 year.

So get a urine pregnancy test done. If it is negative, wait for 2 more weeks. if still no periods see a doctor.

Do not worry if the test is negative, other issues are very common and can be treated.
Hope this helped you.
Thanks for using HCM.
Have a good day.
