What Causes Fussiness With Cough After Esophagram?
My toddler swallowed a penny we just found out it s been stuck in his esophagus for seveal weeks (Mom was at chemo and when I returned after 3 weeks noticed the toddler was acting funny) Took to ER, did X-ray, found penny and pediatric ER doc did endoscopy with follow-up barium swallow a week later. My question is now 3 days after esophagram - my toddler is fussy again, getting up at night and coughing quite a bit, what is wrong with him now?

Hi....even though the foreign body is removed, sometimes the inflammation caused by it for staying so long can still linger on. The other possibility is that there could be a minor injury at the site of lodgement of the coin and it could have got fibrosed. This could be the reason for the fussy behavior as the pain and feeding difficulty can linger on. I suggest you get the consultation of a pediatric Gastroenrerologist.
