What Causes Abnormal Diarrhea During A Pregnancy?

I am 24 years old, 5'2", 92 lbs, and have always been in perfect health. I have had two children and am currently expecting, in my 9th week. I just went to the bathroom and im not sure if what I am having is bloody diarrhea or just abnormal colored (reddish/orange). I have never had any food effect my feces color besides beets and in the past hour had some pasta with a few stewed tomatoes and very little sauce, which has never in the past effected the color of stool. Not sure what to do. Should I wait it out until morning and see if I still have this odd color or what? Any advice or insight would be appreciated.

Stay relaxed. Do not worry so much.

Diarrhea is one of the earliest symptoms of pregnancy, occurring along with nausea and vomiting.Like constipation, diarrhea during pregnancy can occur due to certain hormonal changes within the body during this time.

Changes in the diet, extra water intake, the iron content in prenatal vitamins, food poisoning, these are some possible reasons for diarrhea during pregnancy.

Generally diarrhea subsides automatically after a couple of days. In such instances, you have to retain water and electrolytes by drinking plenty of water and taking ORS, preventing dehydration and providing relief from the symptoms.

In most cases, it does not cause any harm to the baby.

However, severe diarrhea can dehydrate the mother, hampering the blood flow to the fetus. Also constant diarrhea as it is one of the common causes of preterm labor.

As you told that you found abnormal colored diarrhea, you should immediately consult your doctor to rule out some pathological causes like Inflammatory bowel disease or neoplasm of lower digestive tract.

All the best. Take care.
