Suggest Treatment For Swollen Eye After Swimming

Hi there. My family and I are spending the week out of town, at the beach. We put zinc oxide, which we ve used in the past, on my 3 yr old daughter s face before taking her out swimming. About an hour later, I noticed her left eye had begun to swell. She hadn t been complaining with it, or had even mentioned it at all, for that matter, I just noticed it myself. I lightly touched it, and asked her if it hurt, and she says it doesn t hurt at all. I washed her face to remove any left over sunscreen, just incase it could have been that, and keeping a cold compress on her eye. I also gave her a small dose of benedryl. Still no complaints of pain or it being bothersome, but it has become very noticeably swollen. I m not sure if there s anything else I need to be doing, or if I should just go ahead and take her to an outreach or urgent care to be seen. What do you suggest?

Ophthalmologist 's  Response
Hello
It seems from the history that your daughter is having swollen eye following swimming.
This can be because of infection of the eyes in the form of conjunctivitis.
The treatment is by use of antibiotic eye drops.
You can start antibiotic eye drops and take her to ophthalmologist if the condition does not respond to it.

Thank you
