Severe Pain And Numbness In The Legs. Tried Cymbalta. Stopped Taking Due To Intestinal Bleeding. Have Scoliosis And Osteopenia. Advice?

I have intermittent, severe pain, numbness, and tingling (like burning needles) in the front, upper part of my legs (mostly the left), from my knees to my hips. It often appears after a brief period of walking or standing. Sitting or putting my legs up temporarily alleviates the sensations. I am not overweight (4'11" and 113 lbs.). The pain has increased since I stopped taking Cymbalta (which caused severe intestinal bleeding that disappeared upon discontinuation of this medication). Sessions with a chiropractor have helped in the past but are no longer effective. I do not drive at all and need to be able to walk without discomfort. I do not want to take pain pills. My chiropractor says this is not sciatica because the pain does not start in my back or buttocks. She has not provided a diagnosis. X-rays show I have scoliosis. I also have osteopenia. Can you help?

Hello,
Welcome at HCM.

I have read details of your question. It looks that you are having scoliosis & radiating pain in your hip & knee.

Going through your details it looks that you may have compression of nerves in your back. This can be there due to scoliosis. The scoliosis it self is a manifestation of some other vertebral problem. This can be due to-

-Presence of disc prolapse

-Bony abnormality like half vertebrae, fusion of vertebrae, etc.

-Infection in spine

-Muscle pathology

-Vertebral fracture.

You should consult to your doctor & have a MRI scan of your spine to rule out the problem.

At present you may relief by good physiotherapy .

There are some other nerve analgesic like pregabalin or gabapentin which can be helpful in reliving your pain.

If you are osteopenic then start taking calcium supplements so that it does not progresses.

Hope this all will help you.
