Pregnant. Have Nausea, Small Specks Of Blood With Saliva. Could This Affect The Fetus?

Hi, I am 7 weeks pregnant and have been nauseous for the past week. This morning, I felt so sick that I thought I would give into the nausea and throw up. I hovered over the toilet and started to feel that gagging feeling you get from deep down when you vomit, but nothing came up but saliva at first. After several times of dry heaving, I noticed 2-3 small specks of blood with the saliva. I have not had any vomiting or blood since. I talked with my OB but she really didn't provide any guidance. Should I seek medical attention immediately? Could this affect the fetus?

Hi,
This will not affect the fetus. Sometimes, due to severe retching, the mucosa gets torn and you see specks of blood in the saliva. You can consult a physician, get an examination and clarify the issue. You can control nausea to some extent by taking anti-emetic prescribed by your doctor before getting up from the bed, eating some solid food early in the morning instead of liquids, taking dry fruits like pista, consuming easily digestible low fat foods and staying away from irritating smells. Hope this helps.
