Pain below rib cage when bending. What might this be?

Last night I leaned over my bed to put something on the floor. Reaching down to my left I was hit with intense pain in my left side just under my rib cage. Within a few moments the pain spread to my right side same area and this pain has continued although not as intense now 8 hours later. I was able to eventually go back to sleep but the pain continues. Any idea what the sharp pain might be?

Thanks for writing your query.

It seems that you had a muscle pull while bending.
Take proper rest. Hot fomentation and application of pain relieving gel will give you some relief in pain.

You can take pain killer like Ibuprofen one tablet twice a day after meals with antacid Omeprazole 20 mg along with muscle relaxant like chloraxazone. This will relax the sprained muscles.

If the pain persists, get yourself examinned by your doctor.

I hope this is helpful to you.

Radiologist Dr. Ganesh Sanap's  Response
HI, welcome to HCM.
Intense pain is possibly due to mascular pull of abdominal muscle attached at inferior ribs. It is common to occur such pull if anyone not habitual to such positions routinely.
It will wean off gradually . No need to worry about it too much. Take analgesic tablets and rest for 1 day, you will fell comfortable.

Hope this will work for you.
