Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hi,

Thanks for writing to us,

Klonopin is clonazepam and belongs to a class of drugs known as Benzodiazepines that are effective in treating anxiety or symptoms of insomnia but the long term use of this drug is not recommended. These drugs have properties of dependence and tolerance which means that if taken for very long it is difficult to stop using it because our body becomes dependent on them. One can start having withdrawal symptoms of insomnia. irritability etc when the drug is abruptly stopped. Trazodone on the other hand do not have such properties and are useful in insomnia.

If you are having any symptoms of anxiety or insomnia consult a psychiatrist, he/she will help you wean off clonazepam and prescribe other medications for the same.

Hope this helps,
Dr A Rao

Hi, it appears that the doctors have their own preferences, and prejudices. Don't worry, if you have any doubt about the withdrawl symptoms, you can get it changed after going to your place. short term use won't get the dependance. Thank you.
