Missed Periods. Pregnancy Tests Negative. Caused By Ovarian Cysts?

I am female and 24 years old. I missed my period this month which isn t too surprising but a little abnormal. I use to skip periods a lot when I was younger but for the past 2 years my periods have been on time every month but this one. I usually have my period on day 32 or 36 and it s now day 44. I ve taken a few pregnancy tests and all were negative. I have never been pregnant. My husband and I tried for a few years to get pregnant but didn t have any luck so we took a break because I needed dental work done. I had a ovarian cyst last year but it went away when I started my period. Well right now I m getting pains in my ovaries that feel like cysts but since I missed my period I don t think they are going to go away. I guess my questions are does this sound like ovarian cysts and can they cause you to miss your period? Also when should I be worried about the ovarian cysts?

hello,
In younger age (specifically up to 2yrs following menarche) , skipping period is quite common & normal thing due to anovulatory cycle.

But in current context, you need to rule out underlying causative factor for delayed period. These include hormonal imbalance, stress/ anxiety/ emotional upset, ovarian cyst/ PCOD, thyroid problem, wt gain/ extreme loss, irregular eating habits etc.

First of all, you need to exclude pregnancy by estimating blood for beta HCG level as early pregnancy test sometimes give negative result.

In exclusion of pregnancy, other investigations like USG lower abdomen,Thyroid profile, LH/FSH, other hormone assay, blood sugar & prolactin level etc are needed to be carried out. So consult with your gynecologist regarding this.

Avoid stress/ anxiety by regular yoga/ deep breathing, take healthy diet with Vit-E & Folic acid supplements, control body wt by regular exercise and need proper sleeping.

Be well & take care.
consult with your doctor and take suggestive measures.
