Large Sac Under Eye, Redness On Eyelid, No Pain, Crusting In The Morning. What Is This?

Hello. My 70 year mother has a very large sac under her eye. She has had this sac for years, but it has gotten larger as time went by. It used to get big, and then go down, but for quite a few months, it has stayed this big. There is also a sac under her other eye, but not as big. Sometimes that sac will get smaller, depending on sleeping position. Sometimes the eyelid and the sac are red, sometimes they are not. She has crusting in the morning. No pain. Could you tell me what this could be? Thank you. Jamie

Hi
Are you referring to bags under the eye or lacrimal sac swellings.
Eye bags are due to loss of elasticity and laxity of eyelid tissues. Since there is lot of loose tissue so fluid might accumulate there. Get your mothers kidney function done . Other thing is allergic angiooedema of the eyes when redness and swelling occurs after the allergic reaction to something and crusting may occur in such cases.
Get her checked by an oculoplastic surgeon or you may show us the photographs if that is possible somehow.
Take care
