Is Scanty Periods A Side Effect Of Yasmin?

Hi. I believe I am experiencing hypomenorrhea and was wondering whether I may need to change my contraceptive. I have a 19 month old baby and resumed yasmin when she was 5 months old. Since then my periods hardly flow, are dark, scant and barely last 3 days. Should i switch to a different ocp?

Hello,

You are right that this is likely due to the Yasmin you are taking, as these changes to your menstrual periods are common and expected.

These light periods are not harmful at all, so you don't necessarily need to change to a different ocp, but if these periods bother you, then switching may help.

Each ocp affects patients in different ways, so another OCP may give you more "normal" periods.
