Brief Answer: DETAILS ARE GIVEN BELOW. Detailed Answer: Hello, Thanks for writing to us. Scanty menstrual bleeding is called HYPOMENORRHEA in medical term. There are several reasons like using low estrogen contained contraceptive pill, intrauterine adhesion (if you recently undergo D and C), nervousness and emotional disturbance, mental stress, heavy exercise or rapid weight loss, low body fat, improper diet, anemia etc. Ovarian dysfunction or Poly Cystic Ovary should be ruled out in this context. Here, I suggest you to undergo one pelvic ultrasound scan (USG) and complete hormonal profile like FSH/ LH, Prolactin, Insulin, Estrogen, AMH (Anti- mullerian hormone), TSH, blood Hb% etc. Thyroid disturbance (mainly hypothyroid) may impact to cause less menstrual bleeding initially. Proper treatment depends on ruling out the underlying cause and diagnosis of the case. Kindly, consult with your GYNECOLOGIST regarding this for overall clinical examination and proper management. In addition, I suggest to take healthy diet with more protein, vegetable fat and IRON supplement, drink more water (2.5 to 3 lit/ day), avoid mental stress and take sound sleep. Hope, it helps for your information. Kindly, close the discussion if you don't have any other query. Wish your good health and take care yourself. Thanks for a detailed response. I am not using any form of Contraceptives and take proper rest (and don't think i am stressed !:) ). I also got my HB checked (count was 13) and also my thyroid level is normal (checked 15 days back) with my current medication. How can varian dysfunction or Poly Cystic Ovary be ruled out in my case? I have not taken any tests as of now, but a general physician prescribed primolut-n tablets for 20 days. Is it same to try this medicine before I go for ultrasound or hormone profile test?

Brief Answer: FOLLOW THE ADVICE. Detailed Answer: Hello, Thanks for follow up query. 1) I suggest you to undergo one ultrasound scan and above mentioned hormonal test to rule out ovarian dysfunction or poly cystic ovary. 2) If you have already started to take Primolut-N, then you should continue the same and undergo above said investigations. 3) Otherwise, you may do ultrasound scan and hormone tests before taking any kind of hormonal pill. It will help to determine right choice of treatment. Hope, I have answered your query. Kindly, close the discussion. All the best and good luck. Regards, Dr Soumen
