Is It Safer To Use Antibiotics For Infected Cyst During Pregnancy?
I've had a cyst for a while and now it became really infected. I went to.a dr today and he prescribed bactrim for atleast 2 weeks or more, since it "might" be mrsa although he did not wanna test for it. I'm 10 weeks pregnant and did not see an ob yet. Is it ok to take bactrim. If this is just a typical infection, wouldn't it be safer to use just antibiotics?
Bactrim is a combination of Trimethoprim and Sulfamethoxazole. Trimethoprim is not a good option during pregnancy because it blocks the effects of folic acid. Folic acid is crucial during pregnancy and preconception because it reduces your baby's risk of developing neural tube and other birth defects.
But common antibiotics that are generally considered safe during pregnancy include penicillins (such as amoxicillin and ampicillin), cephalosporins (such as cephalexin), and erythromycin.
