Headache After Sinusitis Surgery. Done Nasal Septum Deviation Surgery. Difficulty Breathing. Taking Painkillers

Hi i have been suffering from severe headaches after chronic sinusitis surgery... Its been so long that i have this done. Before that i had nasal septum deviation surgery too. Due to this my nose is wide open. So i cant bear like wind and smoke etc. If i go out in winter or in peak summer i feel like shortness of breath and cant tolerate either cool or humidity. If i go out either it is cold or hot after coming home i feel severe headache. Some say it is Migrane some say like nose wide open. But every day i am taking atleast 2 painkillers from almost 7 years. But none could figure it out what could be the reason. I feel like am breThing with mouth from all these years and getting severe snoring too. Help me out doctor. Cant take these painkillers any more and am gaining weight.

hello
You might have developed Atrophic rhinitis ----if you also have nasal crusting and which on removal bleed....But its my humble request stop using painkillers like this ...it may damage your kidneys......consult an ENT specialist....if not possible start using Normal saline nasal sprays ,,or if you do have crusting use a solution like----- boil one glass of water bring it to room temperature then add baking soda one spoon and table salt half spoon in that and use it for nasal washings... and use neosporin ointment for application in nose .if you are following this then please do report after 7 days ..dont keep on self medicating yourself.

Hello

Thanks for writing to H.C.M. for your query.

I have gone through your query regarding headache after septal and sinus surgery, this headache is usually felt after exposure to either execive cold or hot air. You are feeling as your nose is quite widened after surgery.

Considering your problem it appears as your nasal turbinates are either gets atrophied after surgery or being excised in operation may be they are be involved in disease process. It might be also possible that you may now developed atrophic rhinitis.

All above possibilities are to be clarified by thorough examination and relevent investigations to take proper action for treatment.

Regards.
