Does Trans Vaginal Ultrasound Causes Abdominal Pain?

Hello, two days ago i had a trans vaginal ultrasound because of some health issues, my pelvis feels extremely bruised and painful and i keep receiving shooting pains from my lower abdomen into my vagina. Is this normal for someone who has had a trans vaginal ultrasound?

Hi,

Your symptoms might be due to the trans-vaginal ultrasound procedure done 2 days before. This procedure is perfectly safe and has no or minimal side effects like light bleeding / spotting or cramping. Symptoms are due to the irritation of tissues inside following the procedure, which settle within few days. If troublesome, take anti-inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen to relieve discomfort.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Yogapriya Vasudevan, General & Family Physician
