Child has severe constipation, flatulence, dark and foul smelling stools. Takes nutritious diet. Cause?

Hello there, my daughter is 15 mths old. She has been constipated for months now. She is breastfed, has some formula & eats a really good diet , lots of fruit, vegetables & wholegrains & drinks plenty of water. She is constantly passing gas & is full of wind. She is obviously very uncomfortable, drags her knees up to her belly a lot & is very irritable. Her poop is very dark & very foul smelling & looks a bit like greasy play dough. She alo gets hives . What could it be?

Thank you for your query,
Inspite of taking fruits, whole grains and vegetables, your child is having constipation.
Because of constipation gases will form in colon and it will lead to wind.
You can give oral stool softeners like lactulose syrup in prescribed dosage.
Constipation in your child should be evaluated by doing ultrasound abdomen to rule out any structural anomalies of the large colon like Hirschprung disease and blood investigation to rule out hypothyroidism.
So consult your Pediatrician for further evaluation of constipation in your child.
Hope i have answered your query.
