Hi, I m on cerazette - I have been for a just over a year now - during this time I have had one period. I have been taking regular pregnancy tests - they have all been negative - however, i appear to be developing pregnancy symptoms; can the cerazette alter the efficacy of the pregnancy tests?

Hi,

Cerazette is progestogen-only-pill (POP), or a mini-pill. Unlike combined oral contraceptives, mini-pills do not reliably inhibit ovulation. Rather, their effectiveness depends more on alterations in cervical mucus and effects on the endometrium. Mini-pills should be taken at the same time every day to be maximally effective.

The major drawback of progestin-only pills is a contraceptive failure. Irregular uterine bleeding is another distinct disadvantage and may manifest as prolonged periods of amenorrhea thus simulating pregnancy.

In case of doubt, go for USG Pelvis to rule out product of conception/bulky uterus.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
