Will Naproxen Affect Cerazette?

Hi, I have been on Cerazette for 2 months now, and in that 2 months i have not had a break from bleeding, its not heavy, its light, but it is just every day. I have tried having more vitamin c which i saw could help, it is getting better, but just want to know will it ever stop? My doctor has also now prescribed me, Naproxen for an infection in my chest which is causing a heart murmur, will naproxen affect the pill? Thanks,

Hello,

Naproxen is used to reduce inflammation and relieve pain. It is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It should not affect the effectiveness of Cerazette, which is a progestogen-only contraceptive pill.

However, it's important to note that certain medications, including antibiotics and some antifungal drugs, can interfere with the effectiveness of hormonal contraceptives like Cerazette. Naproxen is not an antibiotic therefore, it's important to inform your doctor that you are taking Cerazette, and to ask if there are any interactions or contraindications between Cerazette and the medications already prescribed.

As for the bleeding you are experiencing, it's not uncommon to experience irregular bleeding or spotting when starting a new hormonal contraceptive like Cerazette. However, if the bleeding persists or becomes heavy or bothersome, it's important to talk to your doctor.

Your gynecologist may recommend further evaluation or adjustment of your contraceptive method. In the meantime, taking vitamin C is not known to have a significant effect on menstrual bleeding, but it may have other health benefits.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
