Can Benadryl, Reacton And Tylenol Cause Mood Changes?

I ve noticed i get mood changes (very emotional over small things) when i take benadryl, reacton, tylenol sinus and when i had general anethestics during dental surgery. The surgery caused me to cry uncontrollably and the above mentioned medications cause me to cry very easily when i am normally not a crier. is this an allergic reaction? Something more serious? Do they have a commonality that i should avoid? Height: 5 foot 6 Weight: 145lb Age: 27 Medical history: only dental surgeries and tonsils.

Hi,

There is no interaction between Benadryl and Tylenol as well as between cetirizine (Reacton) and Tylenol. However, simultaneous use of Benadryl and Cetirizine may increase the usual side effects seen with both the drugs individually like daytime sleepiness, drowsiness , dream anxiety as well as mood changes.

Though, there are very limited comparative studies between Benadryl & cetirizine about their effects on mood, but definitely both of these may interfere with the production of serotinin and other mood regulating chemicals in the brain. Though, not proved conclusively, still Benadryl seems to have more effect on mood as compared to cetirizine based on the experiences / narrations by different patients or users / abusers of these drugs.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
