Atherosclerosis. Stents placed in mesenteric artery. Unable to walk post surgery. Treatment?

my mom is 81 years old and three days ago had twp stents placed in the mesenteric artery due to 100% blockage from atherosclerosis procedure she did however she can barely walk and is very weak. She did go out yesterday to do some shopping and walked around quite a bit. Could the weakness be from the procedure or is there something else going on? She is not complaining of any pain.

Dear patient,

After any surgical or interventional procedure in an elderly, recovery time may be slower, and weakness is more common. However, if there is progressive weakness or ambulatory limitations after a catheterization, that would not be normal, and should prompt further evaluation to make sure that a vascular occlusion/clot etc is not the cause of those symptoms. If things get better after resting from that long shopping walk, then it would be less concerning and recommendations would be to take it easier.

Yours truly,
