General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello and welcome to healthcare forum.
Your father was directly started chemo and radio therapy which means that his lung cancer was found in late stage and he was not a candidate for surgery. Whatever treatment given to him was to prevent spread of cancer to other organ and left lung.
The reason for raised blood sugar was paraneoplastic syndrome, seen in cancer conditions.
Best wishes for your father's health.

welcome to healthcare
basically sugery would have been the best treatment for adenocarcinoma..but since it was metastaic on presentation the only option treatment that could have been given is chemo..and remember chemo is not very good for adeno..stage 1 and 2 will have a good prognosis but at this point of time nothing much can be done..your doctor have done everthing to relieve him..he has even started on erlotinib , a monoclonal antibody..thats the last resort when it comes to medications..the only option u have got now is take one more opinion from a surgical oncologist regarding surgery..all the best
