What Causes Peeling Of Skin On Top Of Mouth After Having Doxt-S?

Question: I was priscribed Doxt-s for severe acne.. After first week of using it I had severe mouth sores. A layer of skin on the top of my mouth just came away and I found it very difficult to eat anything and it was painful. Also had red toung. I stopped immediately and in a week I was fine. Recently I was given the same tab again and this time again with just one tab going in my mouth sores re appeared in the exact same spot and still continues. I stopped the antibiotic now.. Should I now consider that I am allergic to this medicine or is it something else?

Doxt-s contains Doxycycline , an antibiotic . A very well known side effect of Doxycycline is oral or Pharyngeal or esophageal ulceration . That's the reason I advise all my patients before taking the tablet to drink plenty of water before and after taking this tablet . I also advise not to lay down up to 45 minutes .

You have suffered these problems as you might have not taken adequate water/ fluids after taking the tablet .

So it's not allergy but a side effect . IN fact if prescribed next you can take this medicine but follow my advise .
