Question: I am 52 years old. I have Thyroid which is under control by taking thyronorm Tablet100 mg. But I have severe insomnia, i just cant sleep. So initially my doctor advise me some sleeping tablets which were helpful but cant be taken for long period of time. so now he prescribed tryptomer 10 mg to be taken at bed time, as I also suffer from neck pain, leg pain etc, which makes it furthermore difficult to sleep. But after taking Tryptomer for approx 2 months I have put on about 5 kgs weight. Pls advise what to do. I definitely want to loose weight at the same time I want to have good night sleep. and definitely no neck pain and no leg pain.

Brief Answer:
Amitryptiline is good drug for your complains.

Detailed Answer:
Hi Dear

I admire you for positive outlook.

Very glad to see you.

Thyronorm is good medicine for hypothyroidism. You mentioned 100 mg. But I guess it is 100 micrograms.

Hypothyroidism is associate with psychiatrical symptoms like somatic pain, sleep disturbance, mood changes etc.

Tryptomer 10 mg contains amitryptiline 10 mg.

Amitriptiline is good drug for somatic pain like headache and bodyache. It is also beneficial for sleep.

Yes there is chance of increasing weight. But it is not so common with 10 mg of doses.

You have mentioned increase of 5 kg weight after treatment.

But you did not mention time duration ???

Because sometimes it happens that improve sleep and thought level make you more relax. And after relaxation there is increase in apetite which ultimately leads to increase in weight.

If you are better with treatment and you do not have any complain then please continue to take it.

For weight,

Life style modification will help.

Do exercise.
Regular walking.
healthy food.

avoid fatty and junk food.
Avoid calories in food.

If still increase in weight then change in dose or medicine is require.

If you have query then feel free to ask.
Thank you. Get well soon.
