Question: My son was diagnosed with pink eye in both eyes and infections on both ears a couple days ago. He was prescribed cefdinir but his eyes seem to be getting worse not better. Should I be concerned? Should he have antibiotic drops instead?

Brief Answer:
Situation concerning. Antibiotic drops can be used. Visit eye specialist.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

The pink eyes could be indicative of conjunctivitis (an infection) or some more serious condition like childhood glaucoma which needs to be ruled out. Whether there is any correlation between what you mention as infection in both ears, also needs to be assessed. I would strongly insist that you visit an eye specialist without delay and get the child evaluated. In the meantime you can start applying Ciplox (ciprofloxacin) eye drops one drop in both the affected eyes four times a day but this should not replace the oral antibiotics. Please continue the oral antibiotics as prescribed.

Hope that helps.
