Question: I am 32 years old. I have recurrent acne problems and I have tried every possible medicine (pill, roacutane, etc...). Do you think I should make an allergy test to see if I am not allergic to some food components?

Brief Answer:
Recurrent acne; adult acne; need more details

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thanks for writing to us at healthcaremagic

I have gone through your query and I have understood it. Allergies are not Or have not been implicated in acne, as yet.

Acne persisting into 3rd or 4th decade is not unusual. While acne is a self limiting disease in most and acne activity decreases with age but in some the problem may persist in somewhat decreased form, specially females.

Some patients with severe acne may require a repeat course of roaccutane (Isotretinoin) because acne has relapsed in them, specially in those who don't take it for the required duration or a total cumulative dose of 120-140 mg/kg

I would like to gather more information from you

-Is the acne activity more around the time of periods?
-Do you have irregular cycles? Coarse facial hair?
-How long did you take the pills for? Were they effective?

Kindly get back to me with the details

Acne persisting or starting in 30's is known as adult acne. Adult acne can be a stubborn problem to treat but it requires a slightly different approach.
Metformin, spironolactone are additional options that can be tried in addition to oral antibiotics, roaccutane (Isotretinoin) and topical antiacne remedies. You need to discuss about this with your doctor.
