Suggest Treatment For Irregular Menstruation, Hypothyroidism When Trying To Conceive

default
Posted on Wed, 15 Apr 2015
Question: Hi.. I am 26yrs old, have hypothyroid, on eltroxine 100MCG. And I have irregular periods. I am trying to conceive and my Dr. recommended me to get TVS Follicular study from today till ovulation. She asked me that either I can try to conceive first and if unsuccessful get this ultrasound done. Or I can get this done immediately. Please advise what should be done. My problem is that due to irregular periods I am not able to track the fertile days and plan intercourse. Also there is a lot of family pressure. Please advise what needs to be done as I want to conceive ASAP.

3. Since when you have irregular periods and how irregular they are (I mean once in 2 or 3 months etc..

4. Let me know if your husband's semen analysis is normal.

5. Send me any earlier blood test or scan report you have as attachment along with this query.

My height is 5'2" and weight is 67 kgs.
I haven't put on weight and I have been having irregular periods since the starting of periods. And the cycle length varies frlm 30 to 45 days generally.
No analysis has been done for husband or me. Also I have not been diagnosed with PCOS yet.

Brief Answer:
Serial follicular growth scans are best

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for information. Following is my reply:

1. You seem to be having polycystic ovary. That could be reason for delayed periods. Please confirm about this from your doctor while doing scan next time.

2. It is better to undergo serial ultrasound scan this cycle for monitoring ovulation.

3. Meanwhile get husband's semen analysis done which could be reason for infertility.

4. You follow strict exercise and diet regimen to lose around 10 kg at least which will regularize your periods and increase chances of pregnancy.

Let me know if you need any more clarifications.

Regards
Dr. Soumya
