Is Vaginal Bleeding Normal After Dilation And Curettage Procedure?

default
Posted on Mon, 17 Nov 2014
Question: My mother is 56 years. She has had her angioplasty six months ago. She had her menopause 12 years ago. Recently around February 2014 she noticed vaginal spotting. We spoke to the doctor and her tests showed thickened endometrium of about 10 mm. The Ultra sonography showed a presence of a polyp in the cervical region.
She went in for a hysteroscpy and polypectomy and the polyp was removed. The Doctor also did a D&C.
The pap smear test has normal results. Ovaries are normal. Blood reports are all normal. Hyemoglobin is also normal.
Questions -
1. After the D&C is some bleeding normal after 5 days of the procedure. When should we raise an alarm if this is normal.
2. What are the after effects of the D&C. What should we expect ?
3. My mother has ecosprin tablets everyday. Does ecosprin cause this ?
4. Is weakness in the body normal ?

Detailed Answer:
Hello, the answer to your queries is as follows-
1) bleeding fir 3-5 days after d&c is common and there is nothing abnormal in this but if there is a repeat episode of bleeding or bleeding fails to stop even after 7 days of d&c it is alarming
2) usually d&c is uneventful and except for mild pain and slight bleeding usually there are no after effects.
3) ecosprin can definitely cayse this bleeding or at least may take longer fir post d&c bleeding to stop but that cannot be the only cause as her endometrial thickness is also increased to 10mm
4) weakness is usually due to the effect of anaesthetic drugs and bleeding episode after a long interval of menopause but stilk in case ut persists for long tgen she might need some multivitamin tablets regularly.
All the best.
