History Of Dislocated Shoulder. X-ray Shows Calciatic Deposits On Bones. Anything To Be Done?

I have had surgery firstly on 11/11/11 after dislocating my left shoulder following an accident at work.my surgeon performed an arthroscopic remplissage to correct a large engaging hills Sachs lesion and degeneration of the glenohumeral joint
and subsequently made a repair.my shoulder continued to crunch and grind and on 14/02/2012 had a second operation this time an open procedure to stabilise my shoulder. This in my surgeons words he said this is the last chance saloon if this fails there is nothing else he can do.i made a speedy recovery and was back to normal in 3months.In May 2013 I have had shoulder pain shooting to my elbow and wrist with a numbness from my elbow down with chronic pins and needles.i went to my GP and was referred back to my surgeon who sent me for an X-ray which showed calciatic deposits on the bones to which he said he needed to take advice.i was referred for ultrasound guided injection prior to an MRI and am currently awaiting the results. No pain relief is coming close to helping and my shoulder is clunking and grinding is this a case of that's my future a permanent shoulder injury or is there anything that could be done??

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

All the findings and symptoms from the description suggests that you have severe degenerative changes in the shoulder joint.

At times, a steroid shot into the shoulder will provide good pain relief temporarily.

If there is severe destruction of the joint surfaces along with painful limitation of movements, then a shoulder replacement may be the only option.

Also, this is just to let you know that pain arising from the shoulder joint seldom radiates below the level of elbow joint. As you are having sensation of pins and needles, I suggest you to undergo MRI scan of your cervical spine to rule out any disc disease.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
