Question: Since having TKR in XXXXXXX after 3 weeks of doing well my knee cap stsred moving up and down and clunking and gre extremely painful after PT pushed knee up to 130 and held it there too long. I also strained it sitting on still to try to clean up spill. Now it moves up and over and clunks or snaps. My Dr could not see or hear symptoms 2 weeks ago but much worse now. Would an MRI help diagnos problem and have you ever seen this movement I discribe?

Brief Answer:
MRI cannot be done.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The movement of knee cap that you have described can be due to a tendon damage. With the replaced knee joint MRI scan is not possible. CT scan can be done and may diagnose the problem. Another way is to get arthroscopy done to visualise the damage around the knee cap.
I hope this answers your query.

If scan shows tendon damage will surgery be needed to correct or can it heal on its own? If it is a tendon what does it seem like something hard like bone of patella is moving up and sideways?

Brief Answer:
Surgery is not necessary.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
If there is a tendon damage then surgery is not necessary. Exercises like quadriceps drill and proper rest will help. The bone like thing that you can feel moving can be the edges of patella itself.
Hope my answer is helpful.
