Why Would My Father Need A Biopsy?

My father had a brain tumor 9 years ago. The tumor was behind the optic nerve. They removed the tumor then and he had two radiation treatments since then with the gamma knife. Now they want to do a biopsy and also remove some nose polyps. Why would they do a biopsy? Are all chordomas cancerous?

Hi, I had gone through your question and understand your concerns. Chordoma is considered as a low malignancy tumor. After treatment there is need for periodic clinical and imaging follow up. If your dad's Doctor noticed there is a tumor recurrence, biopsy is indicated to check for/ rule out any aggressive transformation of tumor, because there is a statistical evidence that this may happen.Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.
