Why Do I Have Discomfort In Ear Post Swimming?

I went swimming, got water in my ears and I couldn t get the water out and I held my breath and closed my nostrils and blew gently, all of a sudden, there was this almighty pop in my ear and my ear has been hurting ever since with sounds being very muffled. Have I done some damage?

ENT Specialist 's  Response
hi and thanks for the query,
from your description it looks like your eustachian tube is blocked.
it is the tube that connects the nose to the ear.
if the tube remains blocked for a long time it can lead to infection in the ear.
you have to see a doctor to confirm the diagnosis.
you can take any over the counter pain killers like tylenol or ibuprofen.
you can also use decongestant nose drops like otrivin.
instill 3 drops 3 times a day for 5 days.
you may need antibiotics if the infection has set in.
regards,
dr Rajkishori.
