General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Gestofit 200 mg contains 'dydrogesterone', which is a type of hormone called progesterone. It helps in stimulation of luteal actions, changes in uterus and vagina as seen in early pregnancy. It also has prolonged uterotrophic effect and it inhibits the contractile response of the myometrium to oxytocin.
Hence, it prevents habitual or recurrent abortion.
Since your wife has a previous history of miscarriage, taking this medication would help to sustain and maintain pregnancy. Kindly take the medication as advised by your doctor and do the necessary follow-up.
Common side effects encountered include: Breast tenderness, Constipation, Cough, Diarrhoea, Headache, Mood swings, Vomiting and Fatigue. However, these symptoms are bearable and would stabilize over a period of time.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
