When Is It Safe To Fly After Experiencing A Concussion?
Hi, may I answer your health queries right now ? Please type your query here...Hi I am a medical social worker working with a client in Mexico who has experienced a concussion from being hit several times in the face by a friend at a poker game not a mexican national. He is moving about pretty freely and eating regularly. He needs to fly home. When is it normal to fly after experiencing a concussion. thanks
Well I've gone through your query and let me tell you in case of any concussion injury(even mild traumatic head injury), its always advisable to wait for the first 24Hrs as its the most vital phase.
From your description it seems like your client had experienced a mild traumatic head injury . So my advise would be to keep him under strict observation(even though he seems to be doing fine).
Watch out for those warnings signs and symptoms i.e. nausea/vomiting/sudden onset headache/blurring of vision/fits/loss of consciousness etc. and these started happening then its better to check into your nearest ER and get a CT Scan of head done.
Otherwise any time after 24Hrs , preferably after 2-3 days , you can let him fly home.
Thanks a lot for contacting HCM
