When Does Bleeding Start After Taking Pills For Abortion?

hi,i missed by period. and consulted the gynacologist..he did sonography and urine test and informed me about my pregnancy.....i asked him to terminate it hence he gave me a pill on monday and told me take the 2 pills on wednesday afternoon and 2 pills in the wednesday night .i have just taken the afternoon pill and still the bleeding has not started ...........what will be the reason

Hallow Dear,

You must have been given Tab. Mifepristone to be followed by Tab. Misoprostol after 24-48 hours. These tablets are safe and effective in terminating the pregnancy up to 9 weeks of gestation. Usually the abortion process starts within 24 hours after the last dose of Misoprostol. However, cases are known where abortion has started even up to 7 days after.

In very occasional cases, these medicines may fail to terminate the pregnancy. Then it is labelled as failure of the medicines. However, since these medicines cause developmental abnormalities in the baby, in case of failure to terminate the pregnancy, decision should not be reverted to continuation of pregnancy. Abortion should be done by surgical evacuation of the uterus. Now a simpler method of MVA kit is available by which evacuation is performed by suction by syringe.

If the medicines given to you were something different, please inform me so by asking me Direct question so that I can guide you further. Of course, if the medicines were different, you may try the above mentioned course of medicines by the advice of your Obstetrician.
